If you're a new member, or an old one who hasn't read the profile/rules in a while... please be sure to go and read it again SOON. I've been having a difficult time finding the right way to word the rule about posting to
locked communities so that it makes sense to everyone. I want people to feel free to post here and share their icons with everyone, but I also want to keep the community clean, advertisement free, and free of dead and locked posts no one can see.
Many members of this community do not want to join a separate community for every batch of icons posted to this community. The purpose of this community is to be able to easily find these in one place, that is why we created it. If every user had to join a new community for every batch of icons posted here, the number would start to get well into the double (maybe even triple!) digits.
Simply put, this is a community for people who do not want to join and search through hundreds of communities just to find one or two icons to use during a certain season, or for a certain day. They can come here, search through the posts, search through tags or memories, and find what they're looking for fairly fast and easy, without having to join more communities, wait for approval, sift through unrelated posts, etc.
This week because the community is being spotlighted, I made it so I have to approve new posts and new members. I don't want advertisements, unrelated icon posts, or spammers to join and ruin the holiday fun :D Because of this, I ended up rejecting a few entries that linked to locked journals, and it was pointed out that the rules were written in a way that made it seem okay as long as it was made obvious. I wrote it that way BEFORE the spotlight, before I was moderating more closely.
I wasn't logging in everyday or checking the community posts very often, I wrote the rule that way so people would know that they can post whatever, but when I do log in and check the posts, I would be removing any entries linking to locked communities. I wanted the poster to make it obvious it was linking to a locked community so that the members wouldn't waste time clicking that link if they didn't want to. I can't be on all day everyday to delete entries linking to locked communities, and I don't want to have to approve and reject every post.
After the spotlight is over, things will go back to being unmoderated, and I won't be checking every entry every day. When that happens, people can and will post whatever and it will go through... but when I log in and browse through the recent entries, I'll remove entries that look like ads, entries to locked communities, entries with broken links or images. When things aren't moderated, you will have to make it very obvious if your link is taking us to a friends only journal/community. For now, I'm just pre-screening and rejecting them because I know the members don't like them :-/
It's never, ever personal. Everyone is welcome to post here, more is definitely better!!
The best way to put this is...
When we click the link on your entry, we want to see icons!I hope this clarifies things a bit.. I really shouldn't try to explain things at 4am. I end up writing a wall of text where I basically repeat myself every 4 lines. Ha ha xD
In case anyone wanted to see where this all started,
HERE is where we took a vote about this issue, feel free to read the comments to help you understand why the community decided this. You can also click on tags, check out the admin tags, there's a few entries about it as well.
